Students intending to pursue a research topic in the field of library service or literature for children and youngpeople.
The Victoria University of Wellington offers a scholarship to help Masters or PhD students undertaking a research degree in Library and Information Studies. The value of the award to be determined by the Academic Board after consideration of the income from the fund, with any balance of income not expended being added to the fund. The payments shall be made as the Academic Board shall determine. The application deadline is November 1, 2016.
The Scholarship shall be open to candidates who in the year of tenure will be enrolled as Masters or PhD students undertaking a research degree in Library and Information Studies; and intend to pursue a research topic in the field of library service or literature for children and young people. In making the award the panel may take into consideration academic and professional Librarianship performance and such other factors as in their judgement are important in library work with children and young people.
One scholarship shall be offered annually.
Tenure of award
The Scholarship shall be awarded annually and may be held in conjunction with other scholarships or awards.
Applicants should complete the application form and provide any supporting documentation requested.
Applicants shall be selected for interview on their academic and professional Librarianship record. The final award will then be made by a panel consisting of the Vice-Chancellor and the Director of the Library and Information Studies or their nominees and two representatives of the Trustees of the National Library.
The panel may, if it thinks fit, make no award in any one year, and may then supplement the award or make an additional award in any subsequent year.
Victoria University will expect recipients to write a letter of thanks to the donor on receipt of the award and in addition to depositing a copy of the thesis in the University Library, the recipient is asked to deposit a copy with the Trustees of the National Library to be stored in the School Library Service under the same conditions as it is in the University Library and/or make a separate report to the Trustees of the National Library.
The University Council may, on the recommendation of the Scholarships Office, terminate the Scholarship at any time if the Council is satisfied that the scholar is not diligently pursuing study or research, or is not complying with the terms and conditions under which the Scholarship is held.
