The aim of the Fyssen Foundation is to “encourage all forms of scientific inquiry into cognitive mechanisms, including thought and reasoning, which underlie animal and human behavior;their biological and culturalbases, and phylogenetic and ontogenetic development”. Within the context of its general activities,the Fyssen Foundation will awardanannual International Prize. The award forthe International Prize is 60 000 €. The application deadline is until November 7, 2016.
This Prize is awarded to a scientist who has conducted distinguished research in the areassupported by the Foundation: Ethology, Paleontology, Archaeology, Anthropology, Psychology, Epistemology, Logic and Sciences of the Nervous System.
The 2016 Fyssen International Prize will be awarded for research in:
“THE ARCHAEOLOGYOF SOCIAL COMPLEXITY”
“Social complexity is one of the central characteristics of our species, and it is expressed through human behaviour at the individual, population and interregional levels, and is reflected in many aspects of material culture. The prize will be awarded to a scholar who has significantly advanced our understanding of the relationship between social complexity and variables such asidentity, technology, and exchange."
The application must be submitted by a recognized scientist and include:
- Recommendation letter,
- Curriculum vitae and list of publications,
- Summary (four pages maximum) of the research work that justifies the award
The complete folder should be sent by post in 2 hard copies to : Secrétariat de la Fondation Fyssen, 194 rue de Rivoli - 75001 PARIS(France)on November 7th, 2016 at the latest.
