Overview of the field of activity proposed:
The successful candidate will:
• Contribute to Earth Observation research and applications development in Terrestrial, Oceanographic, Atmospheric or Cryospheric fields
• Conduct a one year project focussing on methods, algorithms or applications development in one of the above fields. This could potentially address observations and applications that are of particular relevance for Portugal, such as EO applications in Africa, land-cover mapping, desertification, forest fires, floods, geo-hazards, oceanography from space, maritime surveillance and global climate change
The project work will involve 1) Project planning and definition, 2) acquiring suitable EO data 3) Developing methods and implementing software tools 4) Analysing and validating EO data 5) Publishing and presenting results.
The data analysis may include data from ESA and third party EO missions such as SAR, INSAR, Polinsar, Optical imaging (VHR, Low Res, Imaging Spectrometry), Ocean colour, Sea Surface temperature, Radar Altimetry, Atmospheric limb & Nadir sounding (UV - Far IR).
The candidate may also be given the opportunity to support the organisation of thematic workshops, prepare material for ESA training courses, dialogue with end users and contribute to EO promotional activities.
